    Getting a DUI/DWI is Costly

    Getting a DUI/DWI is Costly

The penalties for a DUI/DWI are costly. Drinking responsibly and making good transportation decisions after an evening or event involving alcohol just makes good sense. What can you expect if you are convicted of a DUI/DWI?

    • Fines and Court Costs: Fines, penalties and court costs are a part of nearly every DUI/DWI conviction. Points are added to your license as well, so you will likely feel the financial impact of increased auto insurance rates for a period of time as well.
    • Alcohol or Drug Treatment: If you are a repeat DUI/DWI offender, then the courts are likely to mandate alcohol or drug treatment to help you treat an addiction or learn to use alcohol in a responsible manner.
    • Driving License Suspension: If you are convicted, then the DMV will suspend your driver’s license for a period of time or restrict the days and times when you may drive. If you are a repeat offender, then the DMV can revoke your license permanently.
    • Community Service: A normal part of the sentence for DUI/DWI includes mandatory jail time, probation, and alternatively, community service. You will be instructed to complete your community service at one of various organizations.
    • Jail Time: If you are a repeat offender or if your blood alcohol content at the time of your arrest was high, you may be sentenced to jail time.
